Daylight Saving Time? More like Early Wine Time.

Today is the first day of daylight savings, so it's feels like midnight at 6pm. While I'm sad about the shorter days and coming colder nights, I'm excited that Wine Time is going to be starting earlier. I try to start my wine drinking after the sun sets, unless it's the weekend and then anytime will do. But now I feel like I have the green light to be drinking earlier in the day. I can already see myself opening a bottle around 4:30, knowing that in 30 minutes the wine will be fully decanted and it's time to drink.

In addition to drinking earlier in the day, this is a great time to pull out those big, full bodied reds. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel, I'm looking at you. Don't get me wrong, if you love drinking white wines, then do it! But this time of year, the food starts becoming a regular rotation of soups and stews. These heavier foods need a wine that's able to cut through the richness and these reds wines are up to the job.

So don't feel sad about the loss of daylight. Be happy that beautiful red wines are starting earlier in the day.
